Things you should know

Moving your email to Google

  • Your email address will remain the same.
  • All of your existing email, calendar entries, and contacts have are in the process of being copied over to Google Mail.
  • For email, this includes your inbox, sent and all of the folders. Folders are called Labels in Google. Please note your Deleted Items will not be copied across.
  • Please note your Tasks will not be transferred across as part of this migration. If you require tasks, this is a manual process, which IT can assist with after the migration.

Accessing your account

You can access your Google Account by signing in from the Google homepage with your full @cns.catholic.edu.au username.

Alternatively you access Gmail, Drive and Calendar directly by using the following links

Note - When using the links above, the sign on page only requires your username (first initial surname) and password.

You can also add these links as bookmarks to your internet browser for easier access to Google Gsuite. The following video explains how to add the links

Using and Customising Google Mail

Google Mail is best used in the Chrome Web Browser and you can customise it, to how it works best for you. The links below cover the most commons questions and settings within Google Mail.

Inbox - The Inbox is different in Google Mail, so you'll need to decide whether to keep the Category mode or return to Classic Inbox

Add Email Signature - You'll need to setup your signature again when you start using Google Mail

Labs - Customise how your Google Inbox looks by using Google Labs

Themes - Colour and Style your Inbox to how you like it.

Labels - Labels are Google term for folders and a way of organising your email. Remember you have unlimited mail now, so no need to delete messages to free up storage space.

Manage Calendar meetings

Google Calendar makes scheduling meetings easy with shared calendars. You'll receive invitations and reminders, and you can even join a scheduled video meeting directly from your inbox.

Share Drive documents

Share Google Drive Documents easily via Gmail

Send huge files in Gmail (up to 5 TB) using Google Drive. Plus, files stored in Drive are updated automatically, so everyone has the most recent version and can access them from anywhere.

Collaborate on documents

Get email alerts when someone comments on your shared document in Docs, Sheets and Slides. To respond to the comment, just reply to the email.

Create tasks from Emails

Turn a message into a task or Calendar Event. -

  • Simply highlight text > More “Add to tasks or Create”
